INP Hosts Lecture on Economic Dimensions of WEFE Nexus Under EU-Funded DIONYSUS Project

The Institute of National Planning (INP) hosted an international specialized lecture on the economic dimensions of the Water-Energy-Food-Ecosystems (WEFE) Nexus. Delivered by Prof. Dr. Johannes Sauer (Technical University of Munich) and moderated by Dr. Fadi Abdelradi, the event examined cross-sectoral resource interdependencies to support sustainable policy formulation. This session was organized under the DIONYSUS project (June 2024 – May 2027), an initiative funded by the PRIMA program under Horizon Europe and coordinated with CIHEAM Montpellier to advance integrated resource management and regional policy innovation.

To enhance reflection and the applicability of Nexus-based adaptation mechanisms and policy measures across sectors, scales, and Mediterranean territories, the DIONYSUS Think-Tank will be established. This initiative will leverage the results of the Decision Support System (DSS) platform and build upon the findings of previous Nexus projects. The Think-Tank will include leading research institutes from various Mediterranean countries, all actively engaged in local decision-making processes. Furthermore, it will foster continuous networking among all relevant stakeholders, both within and beyond the consortium. These efforts will extend existing collaborations among PRIMA, H2020, and Horizon Europe projects and other initiatives, with a particular focus on the Water-Energy-Food-Ecosystems (WEFE) Nexus. Such networking activities—through joint actions and communication—will strengthen complementary research and deepen knowledge exchange across the Mediterranean region.
The DIONYSUS-Inov platform will be an open-access, innovative decision-making tool that provides essential toolboxes and guidelines for stakeholders and policymakers. It will assess various WEFE (Water-Energy-Food-Ecosystem) operational adaptation solutions and sustainable business model canvases at both farm and national levels, presenting their impacts through a range of indicators. This platform will also be easily applicable to other study areas across the Mediterranean region.
